Excerpts from the Statute of the EJF.

Article I. Name. Field of activity. Seat. Legal character.
§ 1 The name of the organization is as follows: European Jazz Federation (in abbreviation "EJF"). In continuation it will be called "the Federation".
§ 2 The Federation acts on the territory of Europe.
§ 3 The Federation has its seat wherever the General Assembly decides. In case of emergency the Federation Council may decide on that subject.
§ 4 The Federation has a legal personality and is a nonprofit organization.
§ 5 Activity of the Federation is founded upon the UNESCO declaration about international cultural cooperation, which was adopted on the 14th session of the UNESCO General Conference in Paris, in November 1966.
Article II. Aims.
§ 6 The aims of the Federation are to support and develop contacts between European countries in the field of jazz and to popularize jazz in all its forms.
§ 7 The aims given in paragraph 6 can be realized by giving help on all items concerned with jazz including:
a) widespread circulation of jazz information through free and easy exchange of views and achievements,
b) fostering and support of talent and creative ability in the field of jazz,
c) giving help and advice to musicians, groups, critics, publicists, organizers and any other persons connected with jazz,
d) sending out news and views of the work of^ Federation members and maintaining contact between Federation members,
e) co-operating with jazz organizations throughout the world,
f) foundation and management of a central library for publications, photographs, records and tapes,
g) setting up and helping a mutual exchange of musicians and groups within the Federation,
h) helping artistic institutions on any problems
concerning jazz, i) organizing congresses, conferences, consultations,
lectures, discussions and the like pertaining to jazz, j) initiating and supporting research work connected
with the development of jazz, k) giving assistance in creating jazz federations and
helping with jazz festivals, 1) helping in the exchange of news, views and ideas



through all media including radio, TV and films to encourage the use of jazz and improve relationship in these media.
Article III. Members — rights and obligations.
§ 8 The members of the Federation are divided into: ordinary, supporting and honorary members.
§ 9 The ordinary members of the Federation are admitted by the board of the division of EJF concerned, on the basis of submitted written declaration. If no respective division is established yet, or if the corresponding division is inactive, applications for membership can be presented to the Federation Council through the Secretariat General.
The supporting members of the Federation are admitted by the Council of EJF, also on the basis of submitted written declaration.
§ 10 The ordinary member of the Federation is obliged to
1) observe decisions and regulations of the statute and comply with dispositions and resolutions of the Federation authorities,
2) participate in realization of the Federation tasks,
3) regularly pay the membership dues. The ordinary member has a right to
1) elect and be elected to the Federation bodies,
2) use the equipment and, also, profit from assistance, of the Federation, according to established binding rules.
§ 11 The supporting member pays the declared dues and supports the Federation activity; he has no right to be elected or to elect.
§ 12 The Federation members can be suspended in their rights as member or can be expelled from the Federation in case of:
1) disregarding of the statute decisions, resolutions and regulations of the Federation authorities,
2) acting to the detriment of the Federation.
§ 13 Membership in the Federation stops in case of:
1) voluntary resignation declared to the board of the division of EJF concerned or to the Council of EJF,
2) striking off the list of the members by the board of the division of EJF concerned or by the Council of EJF because of membership dues remaining unpaid for the period exceeding 12 months after the third written reminder to pay the dues.
The interested member has a right to appeal the resolution of striking off the list to the Main Revision Commission.
