President of the Polish Jazz Federation Jan Byrczek presents the idea of creation the European Jazz Federation at the meeting of Jazz Jamboree Festival guests in 'JAZZ' Magazine office. In addition to editor Jozef Balcerak, the participates included Clyde Watson, director of the Jazz Museum in New Orleans, Willis Conover presenter of VOA's "Jazz Hour", and musicians. All agreed to proceed with establishment of the organization.

The invasion of Czechoslovakia, disrupts the plans, postpones the date and site of the

Constitutional Congress of the European Jazz Federation convenes. The Congress chooses Vienna, Austria, as the seat of the headquarters, and elects the first Board of Directors. JAZZ FORUM magazine becomes the official publication of the new organization.

Invited by John Fritz, Jan Byrczek moves from Warsaw to Vienna to become head of the organization. German edition of JAZZ FORUM is introduced along English and Polish
editions.

Invited by jazz journalist. Wilma Dobie. of Overseas Press Club America Jan Byrczek is taking part in a press conference dedicated to FJF. and cooperation with USA and European jazz scene. A resolution will be presented at next conference to the Board.

York City. Jan Byrczek authorize to make proper arrangements.

Branch Office of the IJF is incorporated in the State of New York. John Lewis is elected President, and John Hammond with Willis Conover Vice-Presidents, Jan Byrczek is Executive Director. Establishing office at the lid Sullivan Theatre Building, on Broadway and 53,d Streets.

Polish Authorities refuse to renew Jan Byrczek passport. He is unable to travel for Board
Meetings in Vienna. Lisbon and Warsaw and to attend the General Assembly in Jugoslavia.
He is loosing post as the Secretary General of the organization and Editor-in-Chief of JAZZ
FORUM.
